Student Visa Terms and Provisions
The UK student visa is called a Tier 4 (General) Visa, which works on a Point Based System (PBS). In order to apply for a student visa in the UK, you must be ‘sponsored’ by a recognized university. The university must confirm that you have been offered admission and will be studying for your postgraduate degree within UK immigration requirements. Thereafter, the university will issue a ‘Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies’.
The student visa is typically valid for the entire course duration plus one month. The best time to apply for the visa is at least 3 months prior to the commencement of the program. Students should apply online and book an appointment for a visa interview at a Visa Application Centre. The final application process time can vary anywhere from 2 to 30 days and the cost is around 322 GBP.
Students are allowed to enter the UK one month before their program’s start date. The student visa issued is only a short-term entry permit which has to be replaced by a long-term biometric residence permit within 30 days of the student’s arrival in the UK.
