ABOUT IB

What is International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognised program for students aged 3-19, fostering knowledge development across various subjects. It aims to shape confident, self-motivated, and resilient global citizens. The IB encourages a holistic approach to learning, emphasising interconnected subjects and fostering a sense of community dedicated to making a positive impact on the world.

The IB motivates students to adopt a holistic learning approach, assigning equal importance to diverse yet interconnected subjects.

IB curriculum

The IB curriculum comprises three core components and six subject groups, outlined below:

  • THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (TOK): TOK is structured to foster critical thinking through open-ended discussions, exploring the essence of knowledge with the guiding question, "How do we know?" This nurtures reasoning and judgment, applying critical thinking to subjects like history, ethics, and science.

  • THE EXTENDED ESSAY: An ambitious aspect of the IB, the Extended Essay entails externally assessed independent research on a chosen topic. Students create a 4,000-word essay showcasing advanced research skills, with reflection on the writing process assessing their knowledge and understanding.

  • CREATIVITY, ACTIVITY & SERVICE (CAS): At the core of the IBDP, CAS inspires students to participate in activities beyond the classroom, fostering creativity, well-being, and social awareness. Through artistic endeavours, physical activities, and community service, CAS aims to shape well-rounded individuals, with reflection enhancing teamwork and leadership skills.

Subject Groups

STUDIES IN LANGUAGE & LITERATURE: This subject delves beyond language comprehension, exploring constructed meanings in language and providing a profound understanding of literature.

LANGUAGE ACQUISITION: Learning an additional language extends beyond communication, building cultural bridges and offering diverse perspectives on the world.

INDIVIDUALS & SOCIETIES: Examining life through diverse lenses—physical, economic, and social—this subject acknowledges the unique experiences of individuals in various environments.

MATHEMATICS: From artists mastering perspective to economists seeking trends, mathematics plays a pivotal role in everyday life. Musicians find rhythm, and engineers read patterns, illustrating the diverse roles of mathematics across disciplines.

THE ARTS: In the study of the arts, students express creativity through various courses, including Music, Visual Arts, Film, Dance, and Performance. This exploration deepens understanding and appreciation of artistic disciplines.

SCIENCES: IB science courses provide opportunities for students to theorise and challenge their understanding of the world through engaging in scientific inquiry.
