ABOUT IB

What is International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized education program designed for students aged 3 to 19. It fosters the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills necessary to live, learn, and work in a rapidly global world. The IB's mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who contribute to a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
The IB curriculum encourages students to think critically, challenge assumptions, and take responsibility for their learning. It emphasizes the whole child's development, promoting academic success, personal growth, and active citizenship.

IB Programmes

The IB offers four distinct programs catering to different age groups, each designed to nurture a child's development and learning journey:

  • Primary Years Programme (PYP) : The PYP marks the start of a lifelong journey. It develops caring and culturally aware children aged 3–12 to become active participants in their learning.

  • Age range: 3–12

  • Middle Years Programme (MYP) : Building a solid academic foundation, the MYP develops students' confidence in managing their learning and connecting their knowledge in the classroom and the real world.

  • Age range: 11–16

  • Diploma Programme (DP):A future-ready program that builds students' inquiring mindset, fosters their desire to learn, and prepares them to excel in their careers and lead meaningful lives.

  • Age range: 16–19

  • Career-related Programme (CP) : A unique program for students in their final years. It equips them with future-ready skills and prepares them to follow their career pathways—combining academic subjects with their professional interests.

  • Age range: 16–19

IB Curriculum

The IB curriculum for the Diploma Programme (DP) is divided into three core components and six subject groups:
Core Components:
Theory of Knowledge (TOK): This course encourages students to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we know what we claim to know. It involves critical thinking and inquiry-based learning, challenging students to question their assumptions and evaluate different ways of knowing.
Extended Essay (EE): This is an independent, self-directed piece of research culminating in a 4,000-word paper. It provides practical preparation for undergraduate study and allows students to investigate a topic of interest in depth.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): CAS requires students to engage in various activities alongside their academic studies. It encourages students to participate in artistic pursuits, sports, and community service, helping them develop teamwork, perseverance, and creative problem-solving skills.

Subject Groups

Studies in Language and Literature: This field focuses on developing an understanding of a language and its cultural context and on communicating ideas effectively.

Language Acquisition: Students learn another language, fostering intercultural understanding and open-mindedness.

Individuals and Societies: Subjects in this group include history, geography, economics, psychology, and global politics. They encourage students to explore societal issues and consider ethical perspectives.

Sciences: Subjects include biology, chemistry, physics, environmental systems and societies, and design technology. These courses aim to develop analytical and experimental skills through scientific inquiry.

Mathematics: Mathematics courses develop mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills and are tailored to students' interests and abilities.

The Arts: Students can choose from courses in visual arts, music, dance, theatre, and film, fostering creativity and expressive skills.
