To understand Australia's Post-Study work arrangements for students, it is important to be familiar with it's Visa system. You will need a Temporary Graduate Visa, which grants post-study work rights. Recently, it has been restructured and renamed for more clarity:
Post-Higher Education Work Stream (previously called the Post-Study Work Stream) - for graduates with a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from a registered Australian institution
Graduate Work Stream — for graduates whose skills and qualifications relate to an occupation in high demand within the Australian labor market (typically vocational education and training graduates)

What are the Eligibility requirements in 2026?
Study requirement: Complete at least 2 years of study in Australia via a CRICOS-registered course
English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 overall generally (some post-study specific requirements run closer to 6.5, with no band below 5.5)
Age cap: Maximum age of 35 for most streams; this has been tightened recently, so students planning delayed study should monitor age requirements carefully
Application window: Must apply within 6 months of your Completion Letter being issued — not your graduation ceremony date, which is a common trap. Missing this window even by one day risks a non-refundable rejection.
Bottom Line
While Australia is named alongside Canada and the UK as one of the top three countries globally for international graduates seeking post-study employment, it has its own limitations, one of them being the expensive cost of living.
