Top International Entrance Exams

1. Scholastic Assessment Test: The Scholastic Assessment Test, widely known as the SAT Exam, is given to get admission to some top Universities in The United States of America. The SAT is a paper-based standardized test scored on a scale of 200-800. It's a three-hour extended, multiple-choice test consisting of four sections: Reading, Writing and Language, Maths Test, and the Essay.

Eligibility criterion: There is no such age bar to take this test. Generally, students in high school( 11th and 12th graders) are eligible for this test.

2. Test of English as a foreign language- It's an English proficiency test accepted by top countries such as the UK and USA for admissions. TOEFL is an approximately four-hour, computerized test. This test examines a student in four significant sections- English skills, i.e., reading and writing skills, and listening and writing skills.

Eligibility criterion: Students who have completed their 12th from a recognized institute can take this test. ETS conducts this exam.

3. Graduate Management Admission Test: The GMAT Exam is a standardized computer-based test to check analytical and technical knowledge. This exam is to gain entrance into masters programs abroad, such as MBA. Four sections are asked in this exam- Reading skills( English), Verbal Skills, Analytical Writing, and Mathematics.

Eligibility criterion: Most business schools require a bachelor's degree from a recognized institute. The score of the GMAT exam ranges from 200-800.

4. Graduate Record Examinations: The graduate record examination is a test required for many graduate schools in the United States, Canada, and other countries. ETS monitors this exam, too. This examination comprises three major sections: Quantitative reasoning, Analytical writing, and Verbal reasoning. The total score on the GRE ranges from 200-990. You must consider this test if you are a strong writer and reader.

Eligibility criterion: There is no such age bar to take this test. However, students applying for a master's degree must have completed their bachelor's from a recognized institute.

5. International English Language Testing System- IELTS, A renowned English proficiency test for non-native English speakers. This exam examines students in four sections: Reading, Speaking, Listening, and writing skills. Computer-delivered IELTS has an approximate fee of 16,250 INR.

Eligibility criterion: The minimum age limit for this test is 16 years, and a student must have a valid passport to appear in this test. The minimum educational qualification required is 10th grade or equivalent from a recognized institute.

6. Medical College Admission Test: The Medical College Admission Test is an examination prospective medical students take. It assesses students' knowledge of scientific principles, problem-solving, critical thinking, and written ability. MCAT is to gain admission to medical schools in Caribbean Island, Australia, Canada, and The United States. The MCAT exam has four sections: Biological and biochemical foundations, Chemical and Physical Foundations, Psychological and social foundations of behavior, and Critical analysis.

Eligibility criterion: You are eligible if you plan to attend health professional school.

7. Law School Admission Test: The Law School Admission Council protects the LSAT Exam for prospective law students. The LSAT is a multiple-choice examination consisting of High-level reading, informal reasoning, and deductive reasoning. The application date for LSAT 2024 is August 14 to January 10, 2024.

Eligibility criterion: A bachelor's degree in law from a recognized institute is required.

8. Pearson Test of English: Pearson Test of English (PTE) is also an English Proficiency Test. Pearson PLC Group conducts this exam. This test examines a student's fluency in the English language. PTE consists of three sections: the speaking and writing section, the listening section, and the reading section. It's usually a 2 hours and 15 minutes duration exam.

Eligibility criterion: The minimum age required to appear in this examination is 16 years for the PTE Academic Test.

9. American College Testing: The American College Testing is an examination for students seeking admission to undergraduate courses in the USA and Canada. It measures four primary sections to grant access: the Verbal, Scientific, Mathematical, and written abilities of a candidate.

Eligibility criterion: This exam is for high school graduates; students in 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th can also appear for this examination; the minimum age requirement is 13 years.

10. Preliminary Scholastic Test (PSAT): PSAT is the shorter version of the SAT Exam approximately given by many students. This exam makes a student familiar with the pattern of the SAT Exam. As of the fall of 2024, this will be a computer-based test consisting of two major sections: Reading and writing and the Mathematics section of two modules.

Eligibility criterion: Grade 8th to 12th students can take this test.
