Digital SAT 2024: New Exam Pattern and Scoring

Updated: Apr 2

As the College Board announced that the SAT will go completely digital now, you might have many questions about the same. This blog answers many of your questions. Read on to find out

When will the Digital SAT roll out?

For all international students, except those across the USA, the college board will roll out the new Digital SAT in March 2023. Students across the USA can sit for the Digital SAT from the spring of 2024.

How are the sections in the new Digital SAT changing?

From now on, there will be just two sections in the digital SAT.

  • Mathematics

  • Reading and writing

Both these sections are further divided into modules. Each section contains two modules. These are further explained below:

Mathematics section

This section will have two modules, each module will have 22 questions and you will be allotted 35 minutes to complete each module. So, you will have 70 minutes for 44 questions. Digital SAT now allows using calculators for the entire module, but it should meet the college board's requirements.

Reading and writing section

This section will have two modules, each module will have 27 questions and you will be allotted 32 minutes to complete each module. So, you will have 64 minutes for 54 questions.

Scoring pattern

Both sections will be scored out of 800 each. The Digital SAT is a module adaptive test; your first module performance will determine the difficulty level of your next module. The answers will be scored based on the difficulty level of the question instead of just right or wrong. There will be no negative marking in the Digital SAT, but wrong answers can affect your overall score.
